PHILADELPHIA, PA - A walking trail just outside Philadelphia led to a disturbing discovery. A 21-year-old disabled man was found alone in the woods, allegedly abandoned by his own mother. Police say the mom, 41-year-old Nyia Parler, left her son in the woods for a week while she went to go visit her boyfriend all the way in Maryland.

Her son is a quadriplegic who suffers from cerebral palsy. He is confined to a wheelchair and cannot speak.

Police say Parler laid her son on the ground and left him there with only a blanket and a bible. She even lied to police and family, saying her son was still in her care. Parler is facing a slew of charges including reckless endangerment.
