HOUSTON, TX – The Rockets opened their first round playoff series with a win over the Dallas Mavericks, 118-108 at Toyota Center.

The Rockets led by as many as 15 points in the first quarter, but saw their lead trimmed to four by halftime.

“Third quarter, we did what we had to do,” said James Harden, who scored 24 points along with 11 assists. “Defensively we pressured the basketball. Offensively, we moved the basketball. Guys got open shots and easy dunks.”

Corey Brewer provided the spark in the fourth quarter, scoring 13 of his 15 points in the frame.

“I was struggling. I couldn’t throw it in the ocean, but hey, stuff happens,” Brewer said. “Got to stay with it, and it paid off.”

The Rockets will try to take a 2-0 series lead on Tuesday night when they host Game 2.

In other playoff action, Golden State beat New Orleans, and in the East, Chicago beat Milwaukee and Washington defeated Toronto.
