Boston Marathon bombing amputee ‘takes life back’, crosses finish line

BOSTON– A survivor of the Boston Marathon bombing is inspiring so many people. Rebekah Gregory, who had her leg amputated as a result of the bombing, ran in Monday’s marathon.

According to My Fox Boston, she ran the last few miles of the race with her trainer right by her side. When she crossed the finish line, she knelt down and cried.

Just hours before the start of the marathon, Rebekah posted a photo of herself on the Rebekah Gregory DiMartino’s New Day New Hope Facebook page with the caption, “This is the day.. I take my life back.”

In 2013, Rebekah was near the finish line at the Boston Marathon, cheering on someone, when the bombing happened.

After undergoing dozens of surgeries and having her leg amputated, she told ESPN that she trained to run the whole marathon this year, but her doctor said she wasn’t healed enough for that; so, she ran the last three-and-a-half miles. Rebekah told ESPN, “It’s still a huge victory for me because I’m so new with my prosthetic. I’ll be using my running blade, Forrest. (I call it that because of “Run, Forrest, Run!” in “Forrest Gump.”)
