HOUSTON, TX - HPD is investigating a deadly overnight crash involving a cyclist and patrol officer in south Houston.

Around 4:30 a.m. Thursday, HPD says Officer R. Scott was headed south on Reed Rd. He stopped at the intersection with MLK Blvd., going when his light turned green. Investigators say that's when the bike darted in front of the patrol car. The two collided and the cyclist was trapped underneath the car. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

HPD says it is looking into how fast the officer was traveling and whether the bike had any lights on it.

As is customary in such incidents, this case is being investigated by the HPD Vehicular Crimes Division and the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
