HOUSTON, TX -- There is plenty to do this Mother's Day weekend in Houston.

Color Me Rad

Color Me Rad is loosely based on the Hindu Festival of Colors, otherwise known as Holi. The festive colors used are a sign of winter`s end and spring`s new beginnings. Or in the case of RAD; the color represents the end of lame runs and the beginning of fun runs. Start out as clean as a newborn babe, and throughout the run, our volunteers will coat you with liquids, powders, and gels of blue, green, pink, purple, and yellow until your face, shirt, and body come out silk screened like a tie-dyed hippie on the other side. Each section of the run adds a new explosion of color to your clean, painter`s palate until you cross the finish line into a final blitzkrieg of color.

Jamboree Gumbo Showdown

Join Saint Arnold Brewing Company and the Downtown District for this 2nd annual event at historic Market Square! Instead of schlepping it to NOLA for the weekend, join us for beer, gumbo, Cajun cuisine and lots of horn-blowing and Cajun two-stepping. Musical guests include the New Orleans Hustlers Brass Band and Houston legend, Corey Ledet. Teams will be facing off for the best gumbo in H-town with public tastings from 3-5 pm and judging and awards immediately after. New this year will be neighborhood favorite Treebeards, with a pop-up booth at the park selling some of their Cajun specialties and of course we`ll have plenty of Saint Arnold beer on tap, as well as delicious Greek food from Niko Niko's available all day. Come hungry and thirsty! Laissez les bons temps rouler!

Think you have what it takes to cook up the best gumbo in H-town? Registration is now open for the Gumbo Showdown and entry forms are due by Friday, April 17. Space is limited to 30 teams, so get your entry in today! View rules and entry form here.
