HOUSTON – Police are trying to figure out why a killer gunned down a Houston businessman at his townhouse late Thursday night.

Homicide investigators say Joseph Stewart, the owner of Stewart Cadillac, died when someone shot him several times outside his residence at 505 West Bell Street around 11:30.

“The reporting who called in, who called police, had said that they heard gunshots and then they saw a black male run across the street,” said Robert Lujan with the homicide division of the Houston Police Department.

Officers found Stewart’s body near his black Cadillac Escalade that was still warm and sitting just outside the open garage door.

Police say Stewart had just returned from a nearby bar.

They say most of his wounds were in the lower portions of his body.

Police say they have not discovered a motive, but they hope video from nearby surveillance cameras will lead them to the killer.
