HOUSTON, Texas - It's National Nurses Week, folks.  So, extend your arm, make a fist and show some appreciation, alright?

Nurses are compassionate, hard working, and committed to our well being.

"I'm so grateful to be in this profession where we get to take care of people," said wound and ostomy nurse Joanna Hoopingarner.

Year after year, they win the Gallup poll for the most trusted profession in America.

"Yes, we are the most trusted," said student nurse Dayana Jacome, who is about to graduate from Prairie View A&M University College of Nursing.  "It's a career where I think a lot of people laid their hands upon the nurses."

The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that there are 43,460 registered nurses working in the Houston area.  Wherever you go, there they are!  If walls could talk.

"They always have the best potlucks and parties," expressed surgery resident Natashia Lewis.

"I like to put jokes on my patients' whiteboards", added Jacome.

It's no secret that nurses care.  So, now you know this is the time to show them that we care too.  Then, don't forget to take your pill, and go get some rest.
