CLARKE COUNTY, GA - When Army veteran Michael Hammons came across a small dog locked in a hot car, he acted just as he would had it been a small child left all alone.

A crowd had begun to gather around the car and Hammons decided to jump into action. He used a piece of a wheelchair to bust the window, rescuing the dog. The dog's owner however was not pleased with Hammons' methods and she demanded he be arrested for criminal trespassing.

Even though the deputies at the scene didn't feel right about arresting a Desert Storm veteran who was simply trying to help, once the dog owner pressed charges they had no choice.

Even with his new criminal record, the witnesses at the scene are calling Hammons a hero.
