HOUSTON -- A Houston police officer was attacked by two dogs while conducting an investigation south of downtown Tuesday morning.

Around 11am, the cop reportedly entered the gated area of a home in the 2800 block of Holman to speak with the homeowner, when the woman's dogs ran out from inside.

Witnesses say the officer reached for his weapon before the boxer and terrier got to him, but he wasn't fast enough. They report that the dog chewed his hand and knocked him down.

Animal control is on the case to determine what happens next. The officer has non-life threatening injuries. He went to the hospital for stitches.
