HOUSTON, TX – The six people removed from Lakewood Church for heckling pastor Joel Osteen on Sunday made their first court appearance on Thursday.

The group is from the Church of Wells in east Texas. The defendants are charged with trespassing after they disrupted Osteen’s sermon, but they say that was the point.

“We believe that the people need to be warned because we are convinced the judgment of God is coming against Lakewood Church. We weren’t there to heckle, we’re not hecklers; we were there for warning,” said defendant Jake Gardener.

The group has been ordered to stay 200 feet away from Lakewood Church, Osteen and his wife, Victoria.
