HOUSTON -- Sandra Bland's family is heading to court.

“The reason we filed a lawsuit today is we have been unable to get the answers we've been looking for, for weeks” said Bland family attorney, Cannon Lambert, at a Tuesday morning press conference.

The wrongful death lawsuit against the officer involved in Bland's arrest, the Texas Department of Public Safety, Waller County Sheriff's Office and two jailers, seeks unspecified damages for the 28-year-old's death in her cell.

Lambert is also calling for Officer Brian Encinia, who stopped bland for not using her blinker and then got into a heated exchange with her to be let go.

In the meantime, Bland's family is now acknowledging the possibility that Bland hanged herself, as jail officials have claimed.
