SUNNYVALE, CA - Two deputies in California are being dubbed heroes after they were able to get a man to safety just seconds before a train smashed into his car.

It all started after the driver, who police say was drunk, crashed into a pole and ended up on the tracks just as the train was approaching.

Deputies Lance Whitted and Erik Rueppel were just blocks away when they heard the crash and ran to the scene. When they saw that the driver was stuck, they jumped into action.

One of the officers was able to yank the driver out of the car and dragged him to safety while the other officer signaled the train to stop.

The driver suffered a few minor injuries.
