HOUSTON, TX - The Texans kicked off their preseason schedule on a high note, beating the San Francisco 49ers 23-10.

Brian Hoyer started the game for the Texans and led the team to a touchdown on its opening drive.

"Playing with new teammates, new team, new system in the new stadium, I was anxious all day," Hoyer said. "So, to go out there on the first drive and score, I was really pumped up about that.'

Ryan Mallett came in after Hoyer and went 10-11 for 90 yards.

"I felt in control," Mallett said. "I felt exactly where I wanted to be, and now it's just about taking the next step."

Mallett is expected to start Houston's next preseason game against the Denver Broncos on August 22.
