Woman who hit and killed Harris County Deputy found guilty of intoxication manslaughter

HOUSTON – A woman who killed a Harris County deputy in a crash last October was found guilty of intoxication manslaughter after hours of jury deliberation.

Kelly Jo Ivey, hit and killed 32-year-old, Deputy Jesse Valdez III, an 11-year veteran with the force . Prosecutors say the 29-year-old was on meth at the time and had drugs in the car.

Ivey was also on parole related to previous drug charges.

She was sentenced on Friday. Court officals say Ivey was sentenced to 60 years in prison and issued a $10,000 fine. Ivey will be eligible for parole after 30 years.
