Unemployment rate down in Texas despite August job loss

HOUSTON - Looking for a job Houstonians?

Well, August may not have been your best month for that. According to the Texas Workforce Commission more than 13,000 jobs were lost in Texas last month.

But before you get too worried, it's important we also tell you the unemployment rate in Texas has dropped to its lowest since 2001!

That means, even though we lost jobs in August, we've gained more than two-hundred-thousand jobs over the past year!

The Texas Workforce Commission released data from the Bureau of Labor and Statistics that shows the Texas unemployment rate falling to 4.1 percent in August while the national rate was 5.1 percent.
