KATY, TX - A Katy seventh grader is standing up for her religious beliefs after she says her teacher told the class to deny that God exists.

12-year-old Jordan Wooley, a student at West Memorial Junior High, went before the school board and said how upset she was about what happened in her reading class Monday.

Katy ISD released a statement saying in part that the teacher, who is Christian, is “distraught by the incident” and that the assignment was supposed to “encourage critical thinking skills and dialogue.”
