MARKSVILLE, LA – The Louisiana State Police is now looking into a police shooting that left a 6-year-old boy dead and his father wounded.

Marksville police officers shot and killed Jeremy Mardis riding in a truck driven by his father, Chris Few, who was wounded.

Elster Smith is the Marksville police chief. “We understand that this could be a lengthy investigation and we are making every effort to comply with the investigation."

First reports say the boy’s father had warrants out for his arrest when he tried to outrun the cops. That’s what led to what officers described as a shoot-out with the driver.

State police say no weapon was found in Few’s vehicle.

The boy was sitting in a child’s seat. He was hit at least five times.

"The two fatal shots were to the head and left thorax or chest,” said Avoyelles Parish coroner Dr. L.J. Mayeux.

"I don't know what he was thinking, I don't know why he wouldn't just stop,” said Few’s fiancée Megan Dixon.

A fatal mistake on somebody’s part that can never be made okay.
