If the phrase “bacon rules” is a tattoo somewhere on your body, or you have found yourself taking part in a bacon-eating contest, then you probably already know about the World Health Organization announcement that bacon causes colon and stomach cancers.
No, not right away, but it apparently increases the risks for those cancers and others.
The researchers looked at more than 20 years of data from 800 studies about meat and cancer.
They concluded red meats, like beef, lamb, and pork probably cause cancer.
And they put red meats in the same category as asbestos and cigarettes.
Colon cancer is the main risk from meat. But they say this is just a warning.
No reason to panic.
And, apparently there’s no reason to get too worried about human DNA found in hot dogs.
After all, it’s not Soylent Green.
Researchers with an outfit called Clear Foods found human DNA in two percent of the hot dog and sausage brands they looked at, and two-thirds of the samples with human DNA were in veggie dogs.
In fact, nearly 15 percent of the dogs contained ingredients not on the label.
You know the saying, the one that tells us we don’t want to know how sausage and hot dogs are made.
Well, if you don’t care about cancer or microscopic body parts, then go ahead, wrap your hot dog in bacon, and don’t worry about this food for thought.
