Students know schoolwork equals fun at charter school in South Houston

HOUSTON, TX - In its first full year of operation, Beta Academy is already showing there can be a balance between intense education and having fun.  The charter school starts each morning off with videos and dancing, helping the students loosen up both their minds and bodies.

"We want our kids to show up everyday energized, full of excitement, full of energy," school founder and superintendent Latisha Andrews said. "The videos reflect the joyful part. Then in the classroom, we're allowed to dive in with the scholars and get rigorous because they're having so much fun."

With the help of the media arts department, the school has produced parody videos, including the student led "All About That Beta," a Meghan Trainor tribute. That video can be seen below.
