HOUSTON, TX - It’s a proven fact that giving blood saves lives. Everyone should take the time to donate. So, why not your pet? The North Houston Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Hospital is the first animal blood bank located right here in Houston. And vets there say it takes a community to make it work.

To have your pet be eligible to be a blood donor, your pet must be one to eight years old and meet minimum weight requirements, 10 pounds for cats and 50 pounds for dogs. The pet must have proper vaccinations and no record of ever receiving a blood transfusion.

We claw our way through the blood giving process, in today’s Inside Story form the pages of Houstonia.
