HUFFMAN, TX — One woman's daddy issues may have led to a homicide, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

Janice Byrnes, 45,  is charged with killing her John Byrnes, 85,  at her home in northeast Harris County.

Once in custody, Janice Byrnes told deputies she got into an argument with her dad  Sunday and thinks she may have blacked out,  but not before the argument turned physical.

Janice Byrnes does remember that she pushed him really hard, causing the elderly man to fall down, according to court documents.

According to the report, she then made a shocking revelation. Court documents said Janice Byrnes stayed with her father for nearly two days before notifying authorities.

Neighbors are still reeling from the commotion that broke out in their quiet community.

"They fight back and forth," neighbor Robert Zwego said.

When deputies arrived, they found John Byrne's lifeless body with a huge gash to the back of his head. A preliminary autopsy indicates he died from a skull fracture, court documents said.

"We just thought it was another issue because it's common, you know,” Mellanie Zwego said.

Robert Zwego said he had heard Janice Byrnes was abusing her father.

"He was a nice man who didn't deserve to die," neighbor Colston Smith said.

Janice Byrnes now is now behind bars charged with murder. Her bond is set at $50,000.

"Even if you have an argument, you've had that long of a life with someone. It's not fair," Smith said.

While investigators know who was involved, what may have happened, and when this crime took place — we're still left wondering why.
