NW HARRIS CO. -- An investigation is underway at a northwest Harris County, Whataburger, after an off-duty deputy shoots an armed robbery suspect around 12 times.

Last night, investigators tell us, two off-duty deputies were grabbing a bite to eat at the Whataburger off of FM 2920 at Spring Cypress Road. That's when two masked robbers, wearing hoodies, came in and started assaulting the cashier.

The six other patrons managed to run out safely. Meanwhile, one of the off-duty deputies confronted one of the suspects. During that time, he allegedly feared for his life, and shot the suspect "around 12 times", according to investigators.

That suspect was taken to the hospital and is said to be critical. Meanwhile, the second suspect took off and remains on the run.

This is still a very active scene.
