Student caught with pistol at Houston-area high school

HOUSTON — A student at an east Houston high school is behind bars after being accused of bring a deadly weapon to school, according to investigators.

Furr High School student Tyree D. Harper, 18, is charged with carrying a prohibited weapon in a prohibited place.

Houston officers said Harper brought a pistol Monday to campus, and since been arrested. He is now at the Harris County jail.

According to police reports, Harper was charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon earlier this year.

Houston Independent School District officials said the student will also face disciplinary action in addition to criminal charges. HISD officials identified Harper as a student in the Reach Charter High School program.

No bail has been set.
