KATY, Texas — A former Katy ISD teacher appeared in criminal court Monday morning after he was accused of inappropriately filming high school students.

Clarence Appleby, 28, was an assistant choir director at Mayde Creek High School before being arrested and charged with invasive visual recording, according to Katy ISD police. Officials said Appleby has worked with school district since 2014.

The district sent a note announcing his resignation Friday morning to parents.

The letter read, “Due to the nature of the incident, not much information can be disclosed at this time, as this continues to be an ongoing investigation, but please rest assured that the safety of all students is our top priority and such allegations are taken very seriously and investigated thoroughly.”
