Lincoln County, MO  — A mother was taken into custody after her child brought a used syringe to her Lincoln County middle school.

“Friday morning she approached her teacher with a syringe that still had liquid in it and told the teacher it was coming out of her home,” said Lt. Andy Binder of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.

The Troy Police Department later took the mother, Julie Freeman, into custody.

Detectives obtained a search warrant later that day, and recovered several drug-related items from Freeman’s home. The recovered items included syringes and a bag of crystallized methamphetamine.

Freeman, 34, told authorities all the items belonged to her. Police said she told authorities that her life was spiraling out of control over the last six months.

Lt. Binder praised the young girl’s actions.

“We felt it was a courageous act of the child to say my mom has a problem and needs some help.”

Freeman’s daughter is now with family members.

Freeman has been charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Endangering the Welfare of Child Involving Drugs. She is currently in the Lincoln County Jail.

Freeman’s bond is currently $20,000 or a 10 percent Surety bond.
