Tips for protecting package deliveries this holiday season

HOUSTON — Congratulations! We did it!

We spent a whopping $12.8 billion shopping online from Thanksgiving to Cyber Monday. That’s up over 15 percent from last year. How much did logging on cost you?

With more deal shoppers preferring to stare at a screen than mingling with the mobs in stores, we're all left to worry the safe passage and delivery of our packages.

Sgt. Phil Clark at West University Place Police Department said, “There are certain aspect of society that like to steal packages. And it is theft. We recommend always having packages signed for by somebody at the house. And if no one is there, then there are alternate ways you can receive your packages.”

Amazon has an alternate way to receive packages. Anyone seen yellow lockers pop up around town recently? Simply choose a pickup point when checking out online, get a code, and safely get your package.

Maybe install camera's around the area your packages are left. At least that way if they are taken, you'd have a better chance of getting them back.

Sure, the holidays are for sharing, but be vigilant to ensure your gifts stay just that— your gifts!
