HOUSTON — Two roommates had a rude awakening early Thursday after a woman wielding a butcher knife broke into their northwest Houston townhome.

Police say the stranger climbed into a window of the town home off of Beall St.

The women who lived in the home were able to escape and call police.

The woman barricaded herself inside as SWAT was called to the scene.  Police say the woman was screaming someone was trying to kill her.

After a three-hour standoff, SWAT deployed a K-9 unit and the woman was taken into custody. She was found hiding underneath a bed.

Police said it is possible that the intruder suffered a mental health issue, or narcotics were possibly involved.
