HPD: 4-year-old dies after car hydroplanes, crashes in northeast Houston

HOUSTON — The child passenger of a car that ran a red light before crashing Monday morning in northeast Houston has died, authorities said.

The Houston Police Department said a woman was driving an orange Dodge Caliber eastbound on Little York Road around 7:40 a.m. when she ran a red light at Homestead Road. Officers said the vehicle hydroplaned to the left, skidding off the roadway and crashing to a light pole.

Police said four children were riding in the car with the with woman, including the 4-year-old boy. The child was taken to Lyndon B. Johnson General Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The three other children were taken to Texas Children’s Hospital with non life-threatening injuries, investigators said.

The driver was taken to Memorial Herman Hospital in an unknown condition.

No charges have been filed at this time.

Houston police are still investigating.
