HOUSTON — There's a new player in the Houston Mayoral race coming up in 2019, and the only question to ask is 'can you dig it, sucka?'

Wrestling great Booker T. Huffman announced that he intends to run for Mayor in Houston’s next election on his radio show, "Heated Conversations."

Many celebrities have made the jump from entertainment to politics over the years.

President-elect Donald Trump — not unfamiliar with the squared circle himself — has already tapped the ranks of the WWE to fill his cabinet when he picked former WWE CEO Linda McMahon to lead the Small Business Administration.

For those of you wondering...Booker T is serious about this run.

“I wouldn’t have said it if I wasn’t serious about doing it. First and foremost, everyone in the city knows my reputation. I just want to be good for the city more than anything, not saying that our current mayor is not,” Booker T said.

So is the 6-time World Champion a Republican or Democrat?

“Right now I would look at myself as an Independent, and I think there’s a lot of people out there that need to be represented, you know, that don’t really understand what those platforms mean,” he explained.

Houston’s current Mayor Sylvester Turner will still be eligible to run for a second term in 2019. How’d he take the challenge?

“Well if he wants to be slam dunked bring him on,” Turner said.
