Man arrested for DWI after hitting HPD officer

HOUSTON- A driver was arrested late Saturday evening after crashing into an officer’s patrol car and fleeing the scene, according to the Houston Police Department.

An officer was traveling east on Hempstead Hwy at Tidwell around 10:15 p.m. when a man driving a white pickup truck traveling west on Hempstead ran a red light and hit the police car.

According to authorities, the officer’s car was totaled but the pickup truck fled the scene.

The officer radioed to a near-by unit for help, who then spotted the white pickup truck but the driver refused to pull the vehicle over, officials said.

Due to the impact of the crash, the suspect stopped after his car began to breakdown.

The suspect got out the vehicle and attempted to flee the scene on foot, but the officer quickly caught him and took him into custody.

According to HPD, a 7-year-old boy was in the backseat of the truck.

The suspect was found to be intoxicated, he was charged of driving while intoxicated with a child in the car and evading arrest.

Both the child and officer were not hurt.
