  • HFD: 2 workers injured in explosion at hotel in downtown Houston

    HOUSTON — The Houston Fire Department is investigating an explosion that left two workers injured in downtown Houston Friday afternoon. The incident happened in the 1700 block of Smith at the WhiteHall hotel. According to investigators, three contractors were working on replacing breakers in the vault area underneath the building when the explosion happened. Two of the three workers were injured.   • HPD: Son fatally stabs mom, injures father in west Houston

    HOUSTON — Homicide Investigators are responding to a scene in west Houston where one person is dead and another is in critical condition. According to Houston police,  a man stabbed his mother and father multiple times in the 12300 block of Westella Drive just before 6 p.m. The mother was pronounced dead at the scene, investigators said.   • New Red Cross website for $400 cash grant is now live

    HOUSTON — The American Red Cross has officially launched its new website to assist those impacted by Hurricane Harvey on Thursday. The organization said victims of Harvey will be able to apply for a $400 assistance grant on their newly-improved application site. Red Cross expects the website to have sufficient capacity to handle all registrations.   • Ex-husband of missing realtor charged with murder

    BAYTOWN, Texas — The search for a missing real estate agent has ended with the arrest of her ex-husband, Chambers County sheriffs said. Officials said  Steven McDowell, 44, is charged with murder after Crystal McDowell’s body was found in a wooded area in west Chambers County on Saturday. Crystal McDowell was reported missing on Aug. 25  after she failed to meet all her appointments. Steven McDowell has been remanded to the Chambers County Jail.
