NEAR BLAINE, WA – Another killing along the US border, only this time folks are singing a different tune: O Canada.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police say a motorist shot a Canadian border officer in the neck, then killed himself.

The border officer was in her booth at the time, across from Blaine, Wash. Mounties say the motorist was going into Canada from the United States.

Emergency personnel airlifted the officer to a nearby hospital.

The shooting occurred at the Douglas Border Crossing. Mounties don`t know why the lone gunman shot the officer.  They say he was driving a van with Washington plates. A witness said a mattress was in the back of the van.

The border crossing, also known as the Peace Arch border, is the third busiest crossing point along the US/Canada border.
