LANGLEY, VA – It may sound like science fiction, but it could have been science fact! The “Daily Mail” is reporting a story that surfaced over a decade ago, which claims that the U.S. had a covert plan to detonate a nuclear warhead on the moon. If the moon is made out of cheese, that would have made a heck of a mess!

Seems like during the height of the Cold War, when the U.S. and the Soviets were playing the game “my rocket is bigger than yours”; there was this super-secret project called “A Study of Lunar Research Flights”. Not too scary sounding at all, unless referred to by its mysterious nickname: Project A119.

The plan of the project was simple; make the moon go boom to scare the be Jesus out of the ruskies! According to the report, an atomic bomb would’ve been launched from the U.S. towards the lunar surface. The mushroom cloud from the moon would have showed the Russians what American mite could do.

Of course, cooler heads prevailed. The crazy project was scrapped over concerns about contaminating the moon with radioactive materials. The moon was spared a nuking. But sadly with all the testing going on our own planet, the same can’t be said about the Earth.
