TOKYO, JAPAN – Invasion of the body snatchers? Not quit, but scientists are working towards it. Well, sort of.

The Ikei Laboratory at the Tokyo Metropolitan University Graduate School of System Design is developing virtual body technology.

More-or-less, the system will engage all five senses, making you feel as if you’re in someone else’s body. Only five? What about the sixth sense? Then we’d be in business.

In the laboratory’s bag of tricks? A vibrating chair that leans back and forth, a 3-D monitor, headphones, a fan to whiff smells around and create breezes, and foot pedals to give the sensation of walking and running.

But why wait for a machine? Just go out and see the world for yourself.
