WASHINGTON, D.C. – Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and her astronaut husband Mark Kelly are joining forces. They want politicians to do something about gun violence.

Since the attack that wounded Gabby, 12 others and killed six, two years ago today, there have been 11 mass shootings.

The Giffords, Kelly project is called Americans for Responsible Solutions.   It’s kind of like a small opposite of the NRA.

The website says their purpose is to “encourage elected officials to stand up for solutions to prevent gun violence and protect responsible gun ownership.”  So they’re not necessarily offering solutions themselves.  Still, at least this starts-up a dialogue.

Most people agree that something has to be done about gun violence. These two respected leaders may as well be the ones to give it a shot.

Don't restrict guns – make the gun owners responsible for their guns. 1. Certain guns (lets say automatic rifles) must be registered – a fine (say $10K) if in possession of an unrgistered gun. 2. If a registered gun is used in a crime, the registered owner is fined (say $100K). This means an owner of an automatic rifle in this case is RESPONSIBLE for the safekeeping of that gun. If the owner cannot insure that the weapon remains in his possession (theft, lost in auto accident, whatever), the owner should NOT OWN THAT WEAPON – and therefore should pay the (above) penalty.
