MAGNOLIA, TX – With all the stuff going on in schools lately, here’s some more frightening news: a student was found in possession of a firearm on the Lyon Elementary Campus in Magnolia.

According to what district authorities told parents on Wednesday, the gun was unloaded and there was no evidence that the child had any intentions of causing harm.

We still don’t know how the weapon was discovered, why did the child bring it to school and what measures is the school planning to put in place in the aftermath.

The staff at the Magnolia Independent School District refused to answer our questions. Instead, they released a statement on their website saying a thorough investigation was completed in cooperation with the county constable’s office.

If a child has access to a firearm, something is wrong whether it is at home or in our society as a whole.  Let’s hope we can find a solution to this matter. It’s our responsibility to keep our children safe.
