A lot of people are running in the Houston marathon this weekend, but one runner in particular is getting some attention.  34-year-old Solomon Kandie from Kenya is taking to the streets, with help from the mattress firm, to help battle pancreatic cancer.

This past October, Solomon won the “Duke City marathon” in Albuquerque, with a record time of 2:24.  In February, he has also won the 2012 Tallahassee marathon with a time of 2:27.

He’s been training hard to better his time in Houston and hopes to break the current record of 2:06, held by Tariku Jufar of Ethopia.

We’ll see how this all shakes out.  Regardless of his results, Solomon is a true athlete and to many, a hero.
