MOSCOW, RUSSIA – Sometimes critics can be pretty funny. But in the case of a world famous ballet dancer, not so much.

Sergei Filin, 42, is in Brussels hoping doctors can save his face and eyesight. This after a masked assailant threw acid in his face near his Moscow apartment.

Filin is now the artistic director of the Bolshoi, and his colleagues believe the attack was in reprisal for his selection of dancers for starring roles.

Friends say someone slashed the tires of his car a few days before the acid attack and that someone posted his professional correspondence online.

The Bolshoi has had its share of internal troubles for the past couple of decades, and it was hoped Filin could make things right. But some of the ballet company’s top dancers have complained about his treatment of other dancers with the company.

We’ve always known ballet rivalries can be nasty, but an acid tongue is nothing compared to an acid attack.
