HOUSTON, TX – The runoff election is over, the votes are in and the winner is…former Harris County Commissioner Sylvia Garcia.

She sat down to talk with NewsFix about the whole experience. Garcia says, “We’re very pleased that we received the trust and the votes from the people of the senate district. It’s just still really really exciting for us.”

She should be excited, Garcia beat out State Rep Carol Alvarado, a clear favorite of the late Senator Mario Gallegos; but it’s politics, you got to have tough skin, right?

Garcia says she and her distant cousin Senator Gallegos (yes, apparently they’re related) were political allies and friends working together on several projects over the years.

Garcia says, “It’s just and honor to be able to follow in his footsteps.”

Spoken like a true politician.
