HOUSTON, TX – Alright, how many of you out there consider yourselves good spellers? Well, these groups of kids are probably better spellers than you, and they’re not even in high school yet.

Round after round, the 55 contestants spelled their little hearts out, but at this contest there could only be two winning bees.

The co-champions this year, Shobha Dasari a 6th grade student from Leon Sablatura Middle School in Pearland; and last year’s runner up Syamantak Payra a 7th grader from Westbrook Intermediate School.

The champs now ship off to Washington, an all-expense paid trip to rep H-Town in the Southwest Region of the National Spelling Bee. They face 277 spellers from across the country, aiming for victory and prizes worth more than $40,000. Hmm, wonder if there’s an adult bracket.
