DOUGLASVILLE, GA – Some get caught with their hand in the cookie jar, but one Georgia mom got caught with her hand in the Girl Scouts’.

Darlene Jo Lewis was the treasurer and co-leader for the Douglasville’s Girl Scout Troop 798. But the group had to call it quits in May 2012 because of a lack of money. Little did they know that Darlene had been pocketing their money.

She was charged with felony theft after she allegedly embezzled nearly $10,000 between April 2010 and January 2011. Police say she had a PayPal account hooked to a debit card that was linked to the troops’ account. They say she wasted the money on things like gas and groceries. She even bought a subscription for a profile on a senior dating website. She also reportedly bought some stuff at a Christian book store.

Maybe Darlene forgot that one of the 10 commandments is ‘Thou shall not steal.’
