HOUSTON, TX – Kids will get into just about anything when you’re not looking, that’s why parents baby-proof everything from table tops to toilets. Houston cops say 21-year-old Marquiez Pratt’s home was not only unsafe for a child, but it was downright deadly for his 4-year-old son, Jaiden, who was visiting his dad one weekend in February.

Marquiez was in court, charged with injury to a child by omission and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, for his role in his son’s death.

Cops say that February weekend, Marquiez was asleep on the couch when little Jaiden woke up from a nap, found his dad’s gun, shot himself in the stomach and later died. When cops showed up Marquiez had his little boy in his arms. He handed Jaiden over to police, and when cops went inside his apartment they say they found weed, crack, along with distribution materials and scales.

Now, he’ll have to wait and see what the scales of justice have in store.
