Louie Gohmert ties same-sex marriage with polygamy, bestiality

gohmertWASHINGTON, D.C. – The debate over legalizing same-sex marriages has officially gone to the dogs, or any other animal you might love, including horses.

Tthe Onion, the online news site that puts a fake twist to current events. A story from 2011 was about a fictitious congressman who said gay marriages would lead to people marrying horses.

Politco, the online news site that covers national politics, is running a story about Texas congressman Louis Gohmert (R-TX) comparing same-sex marriage with sex with animals.

Gohmert was on a telephone conference call with Tea Party Unity to talk about gun control legislation and where to draw the line.

In doing so, Gohmert somehow got around to comparing the argument to marriage. ‘When you say it`s not a man and a woman anymore, then why not have three men and one woman, or four women and one man, or why not, you know, somebody has a love for an animal?’

Gohmert went on to say there is no clear place to draw the line once you eliminate traditional marriage.

We hope the gentleman from Tyler does not think homosexuality is the same as bestiality, or that gun control is as easy as falling off a horse.

People need to understand that polygamy is NOT all “sister wives” and “big love” or the Dargers. UT, AZ and other states in fact DO "turn a blind eye" to FLDS polygamy where children (girls as young as 12) are married off to much older men and then live off of welfare, food stamps and Medicaid (known as "bleeding the beast")… as discussed in "plygs", a fact based journalistic view at the REAL world of FLDS polygamy written by My husband, Ed Kociela. He worked at the local paper (in St. George, UT) for 16 years as the local news editor (including the years of the Jeffs trials). With all the research he did during that time he found many instances of the "lack of law" in this area and the corruption going on. Warren Jeffs, the leader of this group (serving a life sentence for child rape) has recently ordered that only 15 men in the group can procreate with ANY of the women of their choice within the group… from his jail cell in TX he has ordered the businesses on the UT/AZ border be closed, apparently predicted an apocalypse and told his followers to build backpacks and be ready to go at a moments notice. He has banned consumption of oatmeal, corn, turnips and dairy products….and has said to have all children on a beans and water diet. This ALL after the findings of his journal about a bed ordered to be specially made for the purpose of sexually assaulting hundreds of young girls were outlined in pages of a diary he referred to as 'priesthood records'. He told his followers the bed must be made of hardwood, sturdy so it wouldn't rattle, long enough to hold his frame and covered with a plastic sheet to 'protect the mattress from what will happen on it'…. now a lot of the families from TX have moved out of the ranch… this means that many young girls are being moved across state lines or even across the border to Canada this is human trafficking for sexual reasons… another federal offence… the government does NOT seem to be doing anything at this time…this FLDS group are nothing but pedophiles and welfare cheats… The LGBT community would NEVER think of such horror!

Of course you'd point to the worst examples of polygamy. What if we were talking about a group of consenting adults who entered into a consensual relationship? What if three women were perfectly fine with being married to one man or three men are happy to be married to the same woman?

Your argument seems based on the notion that polygamy always involves the abuse of minors. If we're hell bent on redefining marriage and "love is love," why not allow adults who consent to a polygamous arrangement enjoy the same "rights" which homosexuals argue they are being denied?

While we're at it, why not allow incestuous relationships between consenting adults? How are a couple of cousins or an aunt and nephew hurting anyone if they want to be married and procreate? If we're talking about marriage between consenting adults, then it follows that we can't simply allow homosexuals to be married without letting other groups engage in other non-traditional marriages so long as we're talking about relationships between consenting adults.

The bestiality argument is, of course, ridiculous so we'll not consider that.

Get ready — the polygamists are watching the whole "homosexual marriage" drama play out and are ready to step up and demand their rights should homosexual marriages be sanctioned by the state.

Let me be the first to label anyone who objects to polygamous or incestuous marriages between consenting adults as a hate-filled, prudish bigot. Should the nation allow homosexual marriages, then logic demands that other non-traditional arrangements be extended the same rights.
