ISSAQUAH, WA – We all know Dorothy and the gang on the yellow brick road were scared of lions, tigers and bears. While there’s no lions or tigers, there are bears roaming throughout Washington state.
Last year there were 440 bear sightings, including this one at Issaquah Valley Elementary School. The school went into lock down as a black bear and three cubs went through the school grounds like they owned it.
No one was hurt then, but wildlife officials are getting ready because it’s that time of year again. Hibernation is over, and the bears are hungry.
You’ve heard of baby proofing your home, right? Well residents in Washington have to bear proof it, too. They even put out bear proof trash cans.Officials say those are important in order to prevent bears from wandering into neighborhoods looking for food in the bins.
