HOUSTON, TX – The Tommy Tune Awards hosted by Theater Under the Stars mean just as much to the students at 45 area high schools who participated.

They rehearsed their little behinds off all year for the big night at the Hobby Center Tuesday, which included several performances from some of the nominees.

Pearland High School took home the big award for their performance of South Pacific.

Ryne Nardecchia, a student at Klein Oak High School walked away as 2013’s Best Leading Actor for his role as Sweeney Todd.

“It’s an honor. It’s exciting. It’s a lot of fun. We’re ready to have some fun and it’s been cool to see a lot of the other schools,” said Nardecchia.

Another favorite was G. W. Carver High School’s performance of The Color Purple. It won Best Ensemble.

Hats off to all of the students, and congrats to all of the winners.
