HOUSTON, TX – University of Houston staff were out painting walls in the Third Ward. Too bad it’ wasn’t “Cougar red”, right?

“I’m not sure if we’re getting more paint on ourselves or on the house,” joked Mack Rhoades, UH Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics.

That’s alright.  Nice try though. Then, what they say must be true: the University of Houston’s Athletics Department staff changed their clothes to help beautify the community surrounding the campus.

“We’re here as an Athletics Department,’ explained head football coach Tony Levine, ‘really just giving back to the community, helping a family here not far from campus.”

“As you can see we’re painting this house,’ added Rhoades, ‘but we also have another group right now walking through the neighborhood picking up trash.”

These fellows are joining forces with “Generation One,” an association committed to the growth and rebuilding of impoverished areas in Third Ward.

It’s hard to understand how a neighborhood with so much potential is still in so much need. Maybe it’s about time we all showed some team spirit to change things for the better.
