SHAUMBURG, IL – A rare 1913 Liberty head nickel recently sold for more than $3,000,000.

The coin is one of only five known to exist.

Back in 1962, the coin was in the pocket of a collector who was killed in a car accident while on his way to a coin show.

The family didn’t know if it was authentic, so they put it in a closet where it sat for more than 40 years.

Family members finally decided to check it out and discovered it was the real deal.
