Caught on Camera: Meteor Strikes Moon, Meteor Flies Over Volcano

moonEAST JAVA, INDONESIA – NASA scientists caught a powerful explosion on camera. It happened on the moon.

Scientists say a meteor struck the lunar surface at speeds of 56,000 mph. The impact was so strong; it could be seen on Earth with the naked eye.

Experts say they see hundreds of meteor lunar impacts a year. It’s part of a program designed to find and monitor space debris that could hit our planet.

Someone in Indonesia also captured a rare photo. It’s hard enough to get a picture of a meteor, but someone snapped one flying over a volcano. Talk about one heck of a two for one special.
