HOUSTON, TX – Fast and the Furious met the Wild West in southwest Houston.

Houston police say two cars were spotted racing and driving suspiciously in the Ridgemont Subdivision, where someone flags down HPD Officer M. Rivera. And that’s where this race gets out of control.

Police say the suspects zoomed past Officer Rivera while he was talking to a witness. So, the officer follows one of the cars (which police say was stolen) to a nearby vacant lot. Yea, this doesn’t sound good.

“As he gets close to the vehicle, he sees one of the passengers exit the vehicle armed with a rifle,’ says HPD Spokesman Victor Senties. ‘The suspect then points the riffle in the direction of Officer Rivera. And obviously, fearing for his life, he immediately discharges his duty weapon.”

No one was hit in the shootout. The suspects tried their luck on foot, but didn’t get far. The driver and another person of interest (one of which is a juvenile) were nabbed shortly thereafter.

Police haven’t crossed the finish line yet. They’re still on the lookout for a few other drivers and vehicles that may have been involved.

Fast and the Furious? Please! More like Dumb and Dumber.
