HOUSTON, TX – Some politicians are forgettable; but if you were accused of threatening to kidnap, murder and burn a senator, wouldn’t you know who the target of your alleged political death threat is? But Nick K. Gates seemed a little confused as to why he appeared in court today.
Officially the Houston man is charged with making a terroristic threat to U.S. Senator Ted Cruz. But when questioned about the charges against him, all Gates could say was, “Who is Senator Cruz?”
Harris County Officials claim it all started June 5th when Gates allegedly called Cruz’s Austin office saying the senator “owed him money or a bomb would explode.”
Authorities then claim Gates called the senators’ office after-hours and left a voicemail. At some point he also called Cruz’s San Antonio office and left a similar threatening message, saying he would “kidnap, murder, and burn Cruz and his father.”
The FBI says the 37-year-old, with the hazy memory was stupid enough to use his home phone. Agents claim that Gates told them if Cruz didn’t give him $3 million, the “sun” would blow up due to government misconduct.
Harris County claims Gates admitted to the threats and is due to appear back in court July 19th. Maybe he’ll refresh his memory by then.
